Monte Rei Golf Course, is set in the picturesque foothills of the Eastern Algarve, with sweeping views of the Serra do Caldeirão mountains to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. A truly unique design; with water coming into play on eleven of the eighteen holes, Monte Rei golf course features an enjoyable series of eight par-4s, five par-3s and five par-5s in a challenging and distinctive layout. As one of Europe's leading golf courses, I had been looking forward to playing Monte Rei for a long time. The greeting on arrival is impressive, and the helpful staff put your clubs on buggies, and park the car. You are then taken to the driving range and chipping/putting area, which is very good. The build up to playing the course definitely gives the impression you are getting the 'Monte Rei experience'. So to the course - the layout is excellent, but the condition was poor. That included fairways and greens. We played Quinta de Cima the following day, and it was in far better condition. So the general feeling in my group was of disappointment. 220 euro's is a lot of money, so we expected a course in pristine condition. Unfortunately that was not the case, and I will only return when reviews indicate a course in better condition. 220 euro's is not value for money.

Fantastic resort, a course with a great layout. Fast greens, dry and yellow fairways. Extremly deep bunkers, but great type of sand in them. Second best course in Portugal after Dunas at Terras Da Comporta.

The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. Monte Rei is a beautiful course but due to the drought conditions the fairways were almost unplayable. Considering the condition of the fairways I did not feel that it was worth the cost.

Fairways were very bare in places probably due to the water situation and greens not as good as normal but OK.

The course is a championship course by experience (obstacles everywhere demanding a good shot, precision and strategy). Loved the layout.
Only negative was that the course looked dry and not lush.
Otherwise a privileged experience.

Conditions of the fairway and green was very poor

*Undulated - Rolling Fairways with several elevated tees
*Dogleg - On several holes
*Exposed - Very on elevated tees and open fairways
*Buggy Recommended - Included in Green Fee
*Water hazards - Designed wonderfully creating the desire for your best shot
*Parkland - Yes
*Signature Hole - Hard to choose, but the 13th, par 4 with is elevated tee and the entwined green wedged between the lake and the sand.
*Comments - The best golf course in Portugal
